Since I bought my yacht 17 years ago I have been mooching around department stores and kitchen shops trying to find a square frying pan! You can buy cast iron ones with insane handles and ones with griddle bases but until now it has been impossible to get hold of a decent pan to fit a typical yachts cooker. I even had to fit upstanding bolts to my cooker to prevent my old round pan from slipping under the fiddle rails.
Imagine my delight when I came across the Boaties Fry Pan Designed by a Boatie for Boaties.
Why is it so good?
- It is designed to fit recreational stoves which are normally compact and have a limited cooking area. The pan is 250x200x45mm and weighs 950g. It provides the same cooking area as a 255mm round pan. Great for big fry ups.
- The deep vertical sides increase the usable cooking area and reduce spills in heavy weather.
- The handle has a Bakelite grip so it can be put in the oven, but be careful because it will get extremely hot.
- The handle is compact so it does not stick out from the stove any more than necessary.
- The handle is raised so it will fit snuggly over the fiddle rail.
- There is a sloping front end to allow the food to be slid out.
- Made from 4mm thick aluminiun for good heat transfer.
- Tough non-stick double layer finish.
- The rectangular shape is easy to stow.
- Great for cooking sausages as they can just roll back and fore.
- Square pancakes are a better shape for holding fillings and the sloping front end allows easy flipping.
- Great value.

Pure genius, I just wish I had one years ago.
