Galvanised Wire RopeThe wire ropes that we stock are tested and certificates can be supplied on request. The standard wire rope used in the theatre is 6x19 fibre core which refers to six bundles of nineteen strands set around a fibre core. We also stock 7x19 wire ropes which refers to six bundles of nineteen strands set around a steel core rather than a fibre core. These cables are preferred when the wire is running over sheaves as the cable is less liable to deform under load. When choosing a wire rope multiply the weight to be lifted by the recommended safety factor. In general industry five times is the norm but in theatre eight or ten times are sometimes specified. If working with sets of wire ropes always replace all the lines rather than just one.
