Once you have applied primer coats of paint and varnish so the wood is sealed, wet sanding can be a very useful technique. Sanding wet has several advantages. There is no dust so you don't have to wear a mask and you wont disturb other boats in the yard who may be trying to apply varnish. If you are working outside the occassional shower won't stop you working so progress can be made in unsettled weather. The water also acts as a lubricant so relatively fresh varnish or enamel can be quickly denibbed by a very light rub of an Ulta Fine Pad with running water. This is an excellent way to progress varnish coats as the pad will denib but the varnish will still chemically bond. Dry sandpaper would clog under these circumstances. The Heavy Duty Pads are excellent for preparing antifouling with a running hose. They can also be used for cleaning and preparing greasy bilges in one operation. These pads are an excellent choice for paint preparation on old dirty prepainted surfaces. When used with running water from a hose, they will clean, denib, and matt the surface in one action leaving it ready to accept paint. Abrasive Pads may also be used dry. Supplied in packs of ten. They are far more economical and long lasting than using abrasive paper.
