If I had one criticism of the Purdy range of brushes it would be that they were a little too soft to manipulate the heavier enamels and varnishes. The new Pro-Extra has been especially developed with extra stiffness to handle these heavy bodied paints. It gives exceptional paint delivery and lay off. Choose this brush for any paint type but especially when working with thick primers, undercoats and building up varnish coats. My personal choice of varnish brush. |

Alderwood conventional handle with round edge stainless steel ferrule. Nylon SRT/ polyester bristle mix with straight cut. Choose the 25mm wide Sprig for all the detail work around the cabin. |

 | Bow Elite
Using the same nylon SRT/polyester bristle mix but with a slightly longer handle. Straight cut. A good general purpose brush ideal for all paint types except very heavy bodied paints. Use it for applying satin finish coats in the cabin. |

 | Glide Elite
These are the most popular shaped brushes in America and Australia. They are now selling well with painters in this country. The bristles are not just cut off at an angle but the stainless ferrule runs parallel so the bristle length is constant. The angle is chosen to match the normal painting position and so delivers the paint more evenly than a square brush used at an angle. Nylon SRT/polyester mix with a lomg alderwood handle. Suits all but the very heaviest paints. |

A semi oval brush for those who prefer this traditional varnishing shape. Alderwood handle and a long nylon SRT/polyester mix held in a stainless ferrule. Some people swear by the oval shape but personally I find that I loose the edge control needed for varnishing near rubbing strakes etc. |

 | XL Pacer
Long nylon SRT/polyester bristles secured with a brushed copper ferrule. The brush is over an inch thick and so holds large quantities of paint making these the ideal quality brush for flatting in. Excellent shape retention with Purdys famous long life make these the ultimate brush for applying primers and undercoats to large hulls. |
