French Enamel Varnish is made from bleached and chemically dyed shellac. It is manufactured in several colours and is used to stain and varnish wood all in one process. It is also used on props and scenery where a transparent colour is required, such as stained glass or plastics.

French Enamel Varnish can be diluted with methylated spirits, but if you are looking to reduce the intensity of colour, it is better to use the colourless French Enamel Varnish to dilute it.

It is not recommended for flexible surfaces or cloths, or for durable surfaces such as floors.

Whilst it can also be used to colour low wattage light bulbs, though our Lightbulb Paint is more effective and much more economic. Another option is to use Rosco Premiere Clear, to which you can add food dyes to achieve a coloured glaze.
